Release Schedule: May 2021

Howdy Y’all, so we’ve started somethin’ new at Sawdust, movin’ forward we’re gonna start givin’ y’all a sneak peek at what’s comin’ up in the next month.  We really want to keep y’all in the loop about what we got and what’s comin’ up, so we’re givin’ you all the information you can handle.  I don’t wanna babble on too much, so let’s get into this!

A State of Imaginary Grace – This one was a bit of a surprise. It wasn’t intended to be a release on its own, it was actually a part of another project that wasn’t supposed to be finished until early next year. But when we tasted the barrels, we elected to separate the two beer into two distinct releases.  What we are left with is a really approachable bourbon barrel aged brown ale. Usually, bourbon barrel aged beers are big beers with high ABV’s and huge flavour profiles, but we wanted to bring y’all something that was a little more accessible. We wanted to give you the nuances picked up from bourbon barrel aging without the need to deal with overwhelming ABV of flavour.  This 5.5% ale is a malt forward, chocolatey brown ale with subtle nuances of vanilla, fudge and coconut on the finish, all the hallmarks of bourbon barrel aged beer. There’s a hint of cherry in there as well as these were 2nd use barrels that once held The Revenge of Cthulhu, an imperial stout with Cherries, raspberries and cranberries.

Patio Nights – This is the third year that we’ve produced this beer, with each release being somewhat different than the year before. We’ve always liked it and it’s been received well, but as with many of our seasonal releases, we are always playing with the recipe, tweaking it until we get it just where we want it.  As with the prior Patio Nights releases, this beer features the sangria hibiscus tea right out front, with big wine like aromas and flavours of fruit and spice.  We also continued to use a base beer that was somewhat hoppy with out being out of balance, holding the hops in check and only being used to help elevate the fruitiness of the beer.  Pouring a beautiful bright, deep purple, this fruit forward ale is perfect for exactly what it suggests…patio nights. Summer’s comin’ so grab a few of these for those perfect nights on the back deck.

Juicin’ – Y’all know what this is about, right?  This has been a fan favourite for a few years now, so I don’t think we need to do much explainin’.  Our first New England-style IPA that we brewed some 5 years back, has been a Victoria Day release that has come to mark the kick-off to the summer season.  Over the years we’ve played with the recipe a few times, just subtle changes to make it even more, hazy, juicy and drinkable with the biggest changes coming last year when we changed the yeast, tightened up the malt schedule and tweaked the hop schedule. We were really happy with those updates, so there won’t be any changes to the recipe this year, but we have updated the can art just a bit to bring it more in-line with the rest of our branding.  May 2-4 is comin’ up fast so get your orders in soon as this one goes really quickly!

Passionfruit Guava – Again, not much to say about this one, y’all have been drinkin’ it for 4 years now!  Again, we haven’t changed much as we really enjoy the tart, juicy drinkability of this fruited kettle sour.  Not too sour, with just the right amount of fruit, this 3.5% seasonal crusher is the perfect foil for the summer heat. And it’s back at the LCBO again, but this year keep an eye out for some new can art! Sandi Falconer, our in-house artist, has come up with a brand-new label that looks amazing.  We’ll be releasing this one right before May 2-4 so keep an eye out for it and pick up some at the brewery, on-line or at your local LCBO.
